Albemarle real estate is spectacular and exquisite as the majority of Albemarle homes
offer 360 degree views of the ancient, Blue Ridge Mountains. Albemarle County is located in Central Virginia
and is well-known for its extraordinary, Georgian, Albemarle historic homes (many of which were designed and built
by Thomas Jefferson) and exqusite Albemarle farms. Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, James Madison, Zachary Taylor
and Teddy Roosevelt all owned Albemarle real estate at one time.
Monticello is the most famous of all the majestic Albemarle real estate surrounding
Charlottesville.
Fox hunting and other equestrian sports are taken very seriously here. There are two fox hunts
which is very rare in any place in the world, the Keswick Hunt and Farmington Hunt make their home here. Much of
the rolling, verdant land around Charlottesville is in "land use" and therefore unbuildable.
Lewis and Clarke both grew up here and owned well-known Albemarle horse farms in Keswick which are
both still standing today. So, if you envision living on or near this bucolic, pastoral. rolling countryside
similar to England then an Albemarle property is for you. Albemarle is two hours SW of Washington DC and one hour
from Richmond to the east. The highways are fabulous and our new Charlottesville/Albemarle Airport offers daily
flights to NYC and Florida.
The city of Charlottesville is the county seat and sits in the center of Albemarle County. It is
home to the University of Virginia which was just voted the Top Public University in America for the third year in
a row. There are about 90,000 citizens (including the UVA students) living here and of all ages. There are
affordable single family Albemarle real estate in the lovely towns of Crozet, Earlysville, Free Union, Ivy, Keswick
and Scottsville. The majority of Albemarle subdivisions are located in Crozet such as Old Trail, Highlands and
Grayrock.
The television blockbuster series, The Walton's, was filmed in Schuyler, Virginia (40 mins SW of
Charlottesville) and the Albemarle home it was filmed in is now a museum. Mega star, Wayne Newton, at one time
owned the finest Keswick farm, Castle Hill; but sold it because his new wife was lonely since she was living here
and he was in Las Vegas. Actress, Sissy Spacek, and author, John Grisham, are among the many stars that make
Albemarle County their home...both own exquisite Albemarle farms.
Charlottesville was recently voted The Best Place to Raise a Family and The Best
Place To Retire To. The area is very safe and there are many activities always going on for every age including
superb dining. Albemarle County was voted The Best Place To Sip Wine by Conde Nast Traveler as there are almost 100
vineyards, again a testament to Thomas Jefferson and his love of grapes and wine.
No one is ever bored living here (and if they are then they're bored anywhere!). Sports are huge
here and there is Wintergreen Resort, a 4-star, ski resort about 20 mins from Western Albemarle. Albemarle County
offers some of the best schools in Virginia as UVA has the Curry School of Teaching and many of the best grads
eventually make Albemarle home.
Our politics are a mix of both conservative and liberal making it a melting pot for old and new
ideas. ABC Political commentator and popular UVA political science professor, Larry Sabato, also lives here. Since
AARP and Money Magazine voted our area The Place To Retire To In America there are many new retirees buying and
moving into the many newly-built, Albemarle condos near the new University of Virginia & Martha Jefferson
Hospitals.
There are numerous parks and wildlife refuges and 100,000's of acres in conservation easemetns
which stops growth and those horrible subdivisions one sees in Northern Virginia. Pen Park is a great place to live
if you are looking at Albemarle townhomes. It offers jogging, tennis, golf and a playground for kiddies.
The average price for most 3 bedroom/3 bath Albemarle real estate is around $300,000 but there are
100's of deals going on now due to the depression. The most expensive home ever listed is Albemarle House owned by
Mrs. Kluge who had it listed for $100 million (now down to $25M).
If you are looking for Albemarle real estate as an investment please ask for our coveted Albemarle

Albemarle County for its sheer beauty and culture.
Albemarle is very cosmopolitan and wordly. Many investment bankers commute to Wall Street each week
only to return on Fridays to fox hunt and enjoy the good life.
